Course description
The second part of the module Spoken Language Analysis introduces students to the grammar of spoken discourse, the structure of conversations, and principles of oral narratives. The following topics will be covered in the lecture:
- differences between oral and written language use and between spoken and written texts;
- structural characteristics of spontaneous spoken language and how they can be described;
- relations between prosody and syntax;
- goals and methods of conversation analysis;
- the linguistic analysis of oral narratives.
Assessment and grading
Final test = 40%, report on individual task = 50%, activity in class = 10%
